Chef Donna Wynter

Chef Donna Wynter is currently the executive chef at the El San Juan Hotel in Puerto Rico. She brings with her a trove of experiences and tastes—notably her Caribbean-Asian cuisine—that have shaped her culinary repertoire.

Born in Jamaica, Donna studied at The French Culinary Institute in New York, obtaining her Culinary Diploma in 1987. Further training took her to far away properties such as the Siam Intercontinental Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, where she trained in Thai cuisine. Later on, Donna moved to France to immerse herself in French cuisine, undergoing intense training at The Ritz Hotel in Paris and The Trianon Palace in Versailles. Not one to gather moss, Donna left the West for the East to learn the art of dim sum and Chinese cuisine at the St. Regis Hotel in Beijing, China.

With that set of global experiences in her arsenal, Donna began confectioning an extraordinary career starting as the executive chef at La Palme d’Or at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. Throughout the 2000s, she served as executive chef at several high-profile properties in Florida including Satine and Nikki Marina, both at the Diplomat Hotel, the Grove Isle Resort & Club, the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort, the Mayfair Hotel and Spa and the Waldorf Astoria Collection’s Boca Beach Club.

Having built a solid culinary resume, Donna began to take on new opportunities. In 2008, she held a stint as private chef for Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and his wife Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. From 2014 to 2016, Donna was a partner and executive chef of craft brewery and restaurant MIA Bruhaus. She was also a culinary arts instructor for a program developed from a partnership between the Department of Juvenile Justice and Broward County Schools in Broward County, Florida.
